Bahn Mi . . . ?

I had my first Bahn Mi experience some time ago and vowed to make one at home.  Bahn Mi is a Vietnamese sandwich typically with meat, pickled veggies, fresh herbs, Bragg or Soy and mayonaise on good crusty bread.

Strolling through the streets of Waltham, Massachusetts  – hubby and I stumbled upon Prime, an amazing butcher’s shop just outside of Boston.  Everything looks amazing. Alas… we’re staying in a hotel with limited cooking supplies… I’ve only got one pot!  What’s a girl to do . . ?  Improvise – that’s what!   I had that butcher cut me a slab of pork belly, grabbed a bottle of soy and a box of dark brown sugar and and kept it moving!

The stars of my Bahn Mi … soy and brown sugar glazed Pork Belly and a Poached Egg.  Supporting actors…. cucumber, fresh sliced jalepeno, pickled carrots, fresh cilantro, soy sauce and mayo on toasted, crusty bread. YUM!!!

The next time you’re in the mood for something savory, sweet, sticky and spicy – Try a Bahn Mi.

We can make one together on Savory!

Umami!
